Chapter 6: It’s all about goals
Another chapter draft posted, as promised. (Finns will think I’m deranged as I post stuff on Labour Day, when everyone is busy getting drunk, but hey, I have my reasons.)
This time we proceed to goals: what different types are there, both in life in general, and in games in particular. Plans are made to attain goals, so in light of a theory of player experience, they are just as crucial for a holistic understanding of ‘playership’. Plans relate to schemas and scripts, two concepts from social psychology that are also introduced to broaden the understanding of how players experience game systems.

Next up will be two chapters on emotions and enjoyment. This time it will probably take me a couple of weeks to get them ready for posting. Meanwhile, stay tuned, and besides, I’m happy to receive comments on any chapter.
