Chapter out

Ok, finally I’m getting to the point where I will post my work online. The chapters I will be posting are by average ‘beta’ versions that await comments and feedback from basically anyone interested. They are chapters out of a manuscript version I hope to deliver to my professor during May. After his feedback, there will be a couple of so-called pre-inspectors who’ll read the work to check whether it is up to academic standards and permitted for a public defense. Only after that will the actual opponent get the work. That’s how the process goes here in Finland. So, there is a slight chance that I might actually defend the work late this year - we’ll see, it’s all down to schedules.

The first two chapters of the thesis discuss various contexts of the study, both regarding my personal, 8-year struggle with the thing, and the academic contexts and developments in game studies before and during that time. I will eventually post chapters 1 & 2, but as the actual beef starts from chapter 3, I believe posting it serves best to go along with the re-launch of the site:

Introduction to Game Systems, Game Elements, and Simulation.

Next up: References & Chapter 4 on Game Elements.

Looks interesting. I’ve downloaded the previews of Chapters 4 and 5, however for 3 when I save it I keep getting a corrupted PDF file cannot open. I suspect the link is incorrect - you might want to check it out.

I did some fixing, even though it did work with my setup - anyway, hopefully it works for everybody now.

Just to say, I think your work represents a powerful ’shot in the arm’ for the ludological paradigm. Some really interesting stuff here. Your psycho-ludology chapter is really thought provoking. Hope you don’t mind me referencing you in my master on computer games in education!?

Thanks for the feedback! I don’t mind at all, so go ahead and reference. Regarding your subject, my stuff on ‘game rhetorics’ could be useful as well…I hope to post those chapters online early September.
