Blackjack Species in Land-Based Casinos

As of late blackjack aficionados are finding it difficult to locate tables with decent odds at some of the most well known land based casinos across the US and Europe. Because most visitors to land based casinos are recreational players, they might not be familiar with how payout levels affect the odds structure of a casino game.

In order for the casino to generate more revenue from these players they simply changed the payout on a blackjack from 3:2 to 6:5. Though it doesn’t seem like a big odds change at first site it turns blackjack from one of the best games in the house to one of the worst.

Where did this trend begin? It all started just a few years ago when Las Vegas casinos like Planet Hollywood opened their “pleasure pit”. In this area of the casino mostly male blackjack players could sit at tables with barely clothed strippers as their dealers in exchange for taking a hit in the wallet at the blackjack table. This trend then spread past the pleasure pit as casino executives noticed that most of their customers didn’t care about the odds being offered at the table. It has even gotten to the point where some electronic versions of the game – played on a video console offer an even money blackjack.

The lack of decent paying blackjack tables in Vegas and other locals have pushed most serious blackjack players into the online casino sphere. Online casinos know that their customers are more sophisticated gamblers and would flee in a minute if they lowered the payout on a blackjack to 6:5 or even money.

For the best of both worlds, many players have embraced the online “live dealer” experience as the closest thing to gambling in a land based casino environment. With a live dealer the player receives a direct video feed of the blackjack table and can chat with the dealer via the online casino’s interface.
